Hello

People often ask me how exactly hypnosis fits in the mix when I treat conditions like anorexia, or alcoholism, or depression. But the fact is that all these 'states' are actually hypnotic anyway.

For hypnosis to happen, you need to narrow the focus of your attention. Whether you do this by focusing exclusively on a flickering candle flame, the traditional swinging watch, or on your weight and body image (as with an eating disorder), narrowed focus is the key common denominator. You can go into hypnosis focusing on relaxation, on improved sports performance, or on the supposed futility and hopelessness of your life (as with depression). You can't have a psychological problem state without:

. narrowed focus of attention

. hypnotic misuse of the imagination

. automatic conditioning (leading to what amounts to post-hypnotic suggestibility)

If I hypnotically focus on my fears, then my fears make me more suggestible. It makes sense, therefore, to use the right kind of hypnosis - one that elicits and builds resourceful states - to overcome negative hypnotic conditionings, whether these are caused by fear, depression or anger.

So my answer about where hypnosis fits might be: If I really want to help clients with these conditions, it is imperative that I include effective hypnotic techniques in my approach.

Downloads Unwrapped - the psychology behind the sessions

We use hypnosis because psychological problem states are hypnotic in nature. We've got some unusual new ones for you this month!

Let's explore three titles from our new download selection in slightly more depth.

Every session we produce is informed by current psychology and sensible hypnotic technique. There is an art - as well as a science - to creating the best possible hypnotic session.

So to start us off, what is 'integrity'? Is it when your words, ideals and standards match your behavior? Is it the opposite of hypocrisy? A wise man once said: 'The heart of a good man is the tomb of the secret.' And no one likes to hear empty promises - 'If you ain't going to do it, don't pretend that you are!'

In keeping secrets and promises we get to grips with why people are not always as good as their word, and seek to change this. The first step, of course is absolute honesty with yourself. If someone says: 'Can you keep a secret?', don't say 'yes' unless you are super confident you can. Excitement about knowing a secret often makes people say 'yes'. Having someone else's secret gives us a sense of powerful 'currency' with which we can potentially 'buy' attention from interested people. This excitement can build just as integrity slips. Aside from secrets, we often make promises in haste and over-commit. If we're not careful, we can spend a life time apologizing for what we didn't do.

Speaking of which, when we do screw up there needs to be a limit to self-chastisement. Forgive yourself is aimed at people who continually beat themselves up for what they have (or haven't) done. Feelings of guilt, failure or self-hate are unproductive and misery inducing. Forgiving oneself isn't about never feeling bad when you've done wrong. It's about knowing how to let go and move on, having learnt from the past but without carrying it with you forever.

Pain and the past is what generates the grieving process. Getting over the death of a pet can be so much harder when other people downplay your grief, or under-estimate the importance that pets can have in your life: 'It's a shame but, after all, it was only a dog/cat.' is a common response. This session is for people who actually feel overwhelmed by the loss of their beloved pet. Far from attempting to minimize the importance of the loss, it aims to 'organize the grieving'. This helps to stop grief seeping into all and every part of the day and night, so people can be truly at peace with the good times they shared with their companion animal, even after the sadness of loss.

No cost Audio Insight - This complimentary audio session shows how the power of metaphor can be harnessed to sharpen the effectiveness of your communication. It also gives you real examples of how and when metaphors have been used to create dramatic changes below the level of conscious awareness.

Testimonials for the Fear of Heights Hypnosis Downloads

"I decided that it was time to face my fears and conquer the negative memory I have been living with."

"Dear Mark & Roger"

"I would just like to say a huge thank you for helping me overcome my fear of heights through using your MP3 downloads ('Fear of Heights', 'Confidence Booster')."

"I choked about 10 years ago when I wanted to do a bridge swing jump and have lived with a feeling of inadequacy ever since. I am currently on holiday in northern Thailand and saw a brochure for doing a bungee jump here. I decided that it was time to face my fears and conquer the negative memory I have been living with. I downloaded your MP3s and listened to each about three times, using strong mental imagery of doing a perfect jump during each one."

"Many thanks for your excellent products."

This story came from Mike Creed who is from Chiang Mai, Thailand.
