Help clients control their symptoms with the Ease Raynaud's Disease Hypnosis Script

Teach clients how to use their imagination to enhance blood flow to the extremities

Raynaud's disease causes the fingers, toes, and other extremities to become extremely numb and cold in response to cold temperatures or emotional stress. During an "attack" the vessels that supply blood to the skin constrict excessively, restricting blood flow. As well as becoming profoundly cold, the skin may become white or blue and start to throb, tingle, or swell when blood flow and warmth are eventually restored.

The Ease Raynaud's Disease Hypnosis Script from The Script Collection was put together to help clients directly enhance blood flow to the skin by relaxing deeply and imagining warmth flowing to the extremities.

The pre-talk explores the powerful mind-body connection and discusses research findings showing that hypnosis can effect genuine physical changes in the body, including improved circulation. It reassures the client that by relaxing deeply and imagining blood circulating to the extremities, they can significantly relieve their symptoms.

The induction begins with guided breathing as the client is encouraged to experience deepening relaxation and rest with each breath. A gentle, rambling description of the different directions the mind can take, sometimes being totally absorbed and at other times just drifting and floating, is followed by reassurance that no matter what, the unconscious mind will naturally "absorb, digest, and understand," without them needing to try at all.

After a long pause, the client is encouraged to again connect with those sensations of deep relaxation. Embedded commands help the client to fully experience the sense of rest and comfort but also focus and clarity, and then to "automatically" begin to also "feel more warmth in those hands... in those fingers."

This idea of automation is expanded with an explanation of how relaxation can increase blood flow "all by itself" and an assertion that this connection between mind and body can be "trained and developed." Rather than push the client to experience this directly, the script now simply describes "a person" imagining relaxing by a roaring log fire, and how the rich, evocative imagery helps them to "begin to warm up so delightfully."

Building on this example, the client is guided to notice that warmth for themselves, even to see in their mind's eye this increased blood flow to the fingers and toes. Further examples of warming experiences, from sunshine and a warm breeze to a steaming, inviting bath, deepen and expand this sensation throughout every part of the body.

Now a countdown is introduced, leading the client to experience a further increase in blood flow to their extremities. The warming of each body part is described and the previous examples of warming experiences are revisited, building to a pleasurable sensation of profound warmth and happiness. The client is assured that they can use such a countdown whenever they need to as a tool to "train [their] own blood flow" and "bring warmth to wherever it is needed."

The client now flashes forward to a future experience of "those old symptoms" and is able to apply this new technique to relax into an imagined experience and feel the warmth naturally flow to their extremities. This experience is drawn out with long pauses, punctuated by gentle reassurance that they can do this whenever they need and the suggestion that their unconscious mind can actually begin to learn to do this even before the symptoms start.

The remainder of the session serves to reinforce this new skill of directing blood flow and creates a sense of the wellbeing and personal power that comes with doing so. Situations of glowing warmth are described again in further detail and deep relaxation is encouraged as embedded commands help the client to fully internalize this new approach.
