Use the Difficult Medical Diagnosis Script to Help Distressed Clients Find Peace

Individuals who are diagnosed with life-threatening or life-changing illnesses often contend with a range of difficult emotional issues in addition to their diagnosis.

The Difficult Medical Diagnosis Hypnosis Script from The Script Collection was put together to help clients cope with their emotional response and accept how the diagnosis will alter their lives.

The script's brief pre-talk begins by acknowledging that there is no correct way to handle a difficult diagnosis. It explains that people usually react to the situation by feeling a range of emotions, often in phases. Once they have processed their feelings, however, people "develop ways of coping" and find ways to enjoy their lives. The script explains that it will aid the client in navigating their negative emotions as well as coming to terms with their diagnosis.

The client is assured they can find a balance between feeling their emotions and staying in touch with their "natural resilience" that allows them to make the best of things. The goal of the session is defined as finding a way to strike that balance.

The induction begins with embedded commands that instruct the client to relax and breathe smoothly. The client is put through a brief progressive relaxation, beginning with the face, and moving onto the jaw and shoulders. They are assured they don't need to try to relax, and are encouraged to "let go" and allow themselves to fall into a "deeper state of calm and peace."

The client is asked to attach a color to the sense of peace they feel. They are guided to picture this color flowing throughout their body, bringing with it a deeper sense of total relaxation. They are led to notice how even their inner monologue and rhythms have become calmer and more settled.

The trancework begins by encouraging the client to abandon their conscious mind and "set the intentions" for themselves to find more balance, be kinder and more patient with themselves, and to feel stronger and more resolved in how they deal with things. Embedded commands anchor these concepts deep with the client's unconscious mind.

The client is reminded that their goal is not about "trying to be superhuman," but rather discovering a balance within themselves that allows them to "notice what's worth connecting with and what's worth disconnecting from." They are assured their unconscious mind can naturally find this balance.
