Fear of food can take a number of different forms, from disgust or anxiety around certain foods to a genuine fear of choking or becoming ill as a result of eating.

The pre-talk explores the different ways a fear of food can manifest, from a general anxiety around certain foods to a more specific fear of choking or becoming ill as a result of eating those foods. It reassures the client that it is possible to overcome food phobia, and that this needn't involve extreme willpower, but rather a natural adjustment to the way they view food at a subconscious level.
The induction focuses on helping the client feel comfortable and relaxed with the process of entering trance, reassuring them that they need not try, and can allow their mind to simply wander. Words like "can" and "might" make suggestions as to how the client may feel or notice without creating any sense of pressure.
Cool, calming imagery of a clear lake draws the client's attention to their senses as they naturally become more deeply relaxed, before embedded commands instruct the client to "learn" and "make changes," paving the way for the trancework.
The story of a woman imprisoned in a tower is presented as a metaphor for food phobia, helping the client begin to recognize that the phobia is not a part of who they are, but rather an external "captor." The parallel story of a male client whose world "had been becoming smaller and smaller" reinforces this idea of the phobia as an external force.
Now the client follows both the man and the woman as they decide that they've "had enough of being controlled" and draw on new strategies and resources to "do something different" and "try a crumb of something new." Emphasis is placed on doing this slowly and calmly as the woman tries just a "tiny particle" of something new each day.
Now the client is instructed to recall a sound of pleasure, of "yum," perhaps from long ago, and to hear that sound resonating inside. Building on this sense of relaxation and pleasure, we return to the man, who is experiencing deep hypnotic trance and reconnecting with "an unconscious hunger."
Throughout the metaphorical stories, the focus remains on the man and the woman rather than the client themselves. This gives the client room to relax into the feelings and imagery, absorb the embedded commands, and incorporate new attitudes without feeling pressured to do so.
Finally the focus moves to the client, as future pacing allows them to experience what it will be like to calmly and comfortably try something new. Again the script works to alleviate any sense of pressure by encouraging the client to work "gently" but "persistently," acknowledging that the body can take time to readjust, and considering a range of ways they can expand their horizons rather than focusing purely on their eating patterns.
The client is now given an extended period to really "get a sense of doing that" before returning to the man and the woman one last time as they too find success in making these changes. Their old patterns of eating are framed as being in the past, something they have "outgrown" and that "no longer fits who [they] are." They are encouraged to connect with a feeling of relief at being free of those shackles and finally feeling "at home" in themselves.
