Help for Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Hypnosis is a well tested treatment for IBS

IBS Hypnosis

Do you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome?

Are these digestive problems putting unacceptable limits on your life?

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition of the digestive system whose symptoms include cramps, diarrhea, constipation and bloating. About 1 in 10 people will be affected by it at some time in their lives. Other conditions have very similar symptoms, so it's really important to have a doctor verify that your symptoms really are due to IBS and not something else.

IBS is not the kind of condition you're likely to tell other people about. It's awkward and embarrassing, as well as painful and distressing. It can really make your life difficult, as it's not easy to tell when you will have a flare up, or how badly you will be affected if you do. Many people feel unwilling to leave home because of this, and their lives can become more and more restricted.

The link between stress and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

You may have noticed that the severity of your symptoms is linked to the levels of stress you are experiencing. Paradoxically, this is good news! It means there are things you can do, yourself, aside from any medication, to improve your condition. You might not always be able to change the sources of stress in your life, but you can dramatically change how you respond. And this will change what happens in your gut.

Here's how.

IBS, as it's often known, is a condition affecting the digestive system with symptoms such as abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, and bloating.

Before using this download, it's very important to get checked out by a medical professional to verify that your symptoms are the result of IBS and not another condition with similar symptoms.

IBS affects between 10% and 15% of people at some point in their lives. Its exact causes are still unclear, but we do know that IBS can be triggered or exacerbated by long periods of stress. The pain and discomfort of IBS, combined with the unpredictability of flare-ups, can significantly interfere with your quality of life. Many people find it an upsetting and distressing condition to manage.

While there is no single, one-shot cure for IBS, there are a variety of treatment options, and hypnosis is one of them. Numerous studies have shown that hypnosis can be highly effective in alleviating the symptoms of IBS. Furthermore, unlike other treatments, hypnosis has no side effects.

For example, in a 2001 study conducted at the University of Manchester in England, 250 patients with IBS underwent 12 sessions of hypnotherapy. When interviewed five years later, 71% of participants reported lasting improvements in their condition.

Hypnosis can help with IBS in several ways.

Deep Relaxation and Stress Management

Regular deep relaxation counteracts the stress response. When you're under stress due to certain pressures or worries, your brain perceives a threat to your safety and activates the "fight or flight" response-just as it might if a lion were hungrily eyeing you in the wild.

In this state, your adrenal glands release adrenaline, triggering responses like sweating, quicker breathing, and an accelerated heart rate, all designed to prepare you for immediate action. At the same time, non-essential systems-like your sex drive, immune system, and digestion-are temporarily suppressed. After all, you don't need to digest food or procreate when running for your life from a lion.

This reaction is fine in short-term situations, but if stress continues for hours, days, or even weeks, your adrenal glands remain active, and your digestion suffers. What begins as an adaptive response for short-term survival becomes maladaptive, disrupting essential functions like digestion, immunity, and hormonal balance.

Deep relaxation is the antidote to ongoing stress. When you relax deeply, your immune system works better, and your digestive system receives the oxygen and blood it needs to function properly.

Hypnosis for Pain and Healing

Hypnosis has been used for many years to help manage pain, accelerate healing, and calm inflammatory conditions. For example, when people use hypnosis to visualize their immune system working more effectively-by imagining healthy, strong white blood cells overcoming weak germs and bacteria-their white blood cell count measurably increases within minutes.

Through visualization and hypnotic suggestion, people can learn to directly influence their bodies, including reducing the discomfort associated with IBS.
