Stop Teeth Grinding / Bruxism with Hypnosis
Use the power of your unconscious mind to stop wearing down your teeth at night
Have you been grinding your teeth while you sleep?
Are you puzzled about how to stop doing something you don't know you're doing?
What's behind teeth grinding / bruxism?
Why on earth do some people fall into a pattern of grinding their teeth at night, when they're fast asleep? It damages your teeth, makes enough noise to disturb a sleeping partner, and can leave you with a painful jaw. What possible purpose can it serve?
The causes aren't fully understood, but there does seem to be a strong connection between bruxism and stress. It seems that when you have to 'grit your teeth' about things, you can fall into a habit of keeping your jaw tense that carries over into sleep. It's possible that the grinding action has a soothing effect, like thumb sucking. Once you've acquired the habit, it seems impossible to stop, because you don't know you're doing it.
Can you change automatic unconscious behaviors?
So teeth grinding is a classic example of an unconscious automatic behavior, rather like nervous sweating, or blushing. You don't choose to do it, it happens all by itself. But this doesn't mean that you are doomed to grind and grind until your teeth have worn away completely. Unwanted unconscious behaviors can be changed when you intervene on the same level as the behavior - the level of your unconscious mind.

Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is a condition that many people suffer from-sometimes without even being aware they're doing it. The causes of teeth grinding aren't completely understood, but it certainly appears to be linked to stress. When a person is tense, worried, or under pressure at work or elsewhere, this stress may trigger a period of grinding.
Substances like caffeine, alcohol, and certain recreational drugs are known to cause or significantly worsen teeth grinding. Some people find that supplementing their diet with extra magnesium and B vitamins can be helpful. Additionally, wearing a mouth guard at night can protect the teeth and, in some cases, even help eliminate the grinding habit.
While teeth grinding can occur during the day, it most often happens when a person is fast asleep. You may have woken up in the morning with painful, sensitive teeth, an aching jaw, or a headache. Ongoing dental problems, such as chipped or cracked teeth or worn enamel, may also result from grinding.
It can be frustrating to realize that the damage to your teeth is, on some level, self-inflicted. While teeth grinding isn't something you do consciously or deliberately, it's not as though someone else is sneaking into your room at night and maliciously forcing your jaws together. At a deep, unconscious level, it's simply a bad habit that your jaw muscles have been engaging in without your awareness.
The good news is that, since teeth grinding is fundamentally a bad habit, it's something you can change-especially through hypnosis. Hypnosis is an optimal learning state for the brain, allowing you to make lasting, positive changes to unconscious habits. It can help you gain control over aspects of your body that are typically automatic and unconscious.
Studies have shown that hypnosis can lead to profound physical healing, such as speeding up wound recovery, eliminating allergies, overcoming gut disorders, and addressing unconscious habits like nervous sweating or excessive blushing. In other words, hypnosis offers a way to communicate directly with the body and unconscious mind to change deeply ingrained habits and heal physical conditions.
There are numerous case studies where hypnosis has helped people completely eliminate teeth grinding. I myself used to grind my teeth and successfully overcame the habit through hypnosis. The hypnotic part of this session will use the same powerful techniques that we at Uncommon Knowledge have employed for many years to help people overcome teeth grinding for good.
