Hi

Are you self centred? (Fine greeting, huh!)

No, of course you're not. Well, not much. Well... maybe in some ways. We're all prone to self centeredness actually. Pretty well everything obnoxious, difficult or self destructive in people emanates from an excessive focus on the self at the expense of the context of a situation or of other people's needs. We all need to consider ourselves so we can meet our basic emotional and physical needs. And people can run into all kinds of problems when they feel they should never take, want or need anything. But we don't need to be constantly self-referential about all and everything. Being too self centred, too concerned with grabbing more than our share of attention, or being so wrapped up in ourselves that we lose perspective is damaging to mental health. (1)

One new download this month is Stop being self centered which is something perhaps only people already at a certain level of self awareness would even consider necessary for themselves. I think a really useful adjunct to that session would be our newly upgraded and just re-released session Be more patient. An old favourite in our rushed times dusted down and improved.

Shy child is the third in our series of downloads specifically for children. Shyness is often labelled 'social phobia' and can spoil the early years for kids at school and socially in ways that can echo far into their adult years. But shyness can be 'worn out' through time and even 'discarded' early on when the right approaches are used.

And I could talk about this all day but I won't (sighs of relief), but I would like to talk a little more in depth abut our three other new sessions next in Downloads Unwrapped, because good use of hypnosis is nothing without a sound psychological basis coupled with great therapeutic ideas.

All the best,

Mark

Mark's Tip for the Top

My personal favorite for April is Stroke movement recovery because hypnotic treatment for stroke victims comes close to feeling genuinely 'miraculous' when it works really well.

Last month's Audio Insight

This free audio session - How to use the power of wondering - not only tells you why cultivating a wondering mindset can help you be more successful it also shows you how.

Note

  1. Mark Schaller, a psychologist at the University of British Columbia studied the lyrics of Kurt Cobain (the rock star who committed suicide) and Cole Porter and the works of short story writer John Cheever. He wanted to investigate whether there was an increase in the use of personal pronouns (I, me, myself, mine etc.) before and after they became famous. He surmised that narcissists use more personal pronouns and fame makes people more narcissistic.

He did, indeed, find an increase in self referential statements after fame. 'The psychological consequences of fame: three tests of the self consciousness hypothesis’, (1997, Journal of Personality, 65,2,291-309).

He also found a correlation between high levels of self referential statements (both before and after fame) and later mental health problems and suicide (such as the case with Kurt Cobain, Michael Hutchins and other famous suicides).

Testimonials for the Studying Motivation Hypnosis Download

"I am not certain that I would have been as successful without these tools... "
by L.J. Windon

I've been wanting to thank the guys from Uncommon Knowledge for getting me through my Masters last year. Using a range of hypnosis downloads - 'Dealing with Stress', 'Overcome Fear and Anxiety', 'Overcoming Procrastination', 'Improving Concentration' and 'Study Motivation' - really, really assisted me to stay on track, focus on my goals, and certainly helped me to rest well at night. I am not certain that I would have been as successful without these tools.

I regularly use the 'Relaxing Hypnosis Massage' as I go to sleep. I find that I awaken really refreshed and relaxed as I have been able to fall into deep sleep without all that "chatter", and sleep more soundly, allowing my body to truly rest. Thank you, thank you, thank you...

Yours sincerely,
L.J. Windon

About HypnosisDownloads.com

HypnosisDownloads.com was created by the two of us - Roger Elliott and Mark Tyrrell - to provide a readily accessible source of high quality hypnosis to cover a whole range of situations that can affect everyday life and which could be used by professional therapists and individuals for self hypnosis.

As the founders of Uncommon Knowledge we train therapists in the latest methods. Not everybody has the time or the inclination to undergo this level of training but the beauty of hypnosis is that basic skills can be acquired quickly. HypnosisDownloads.com helps you do that.

Can we help you do something?
