In their mind's eye, they see how they will look, and they imagine how they will feel when that food has had its full impact. And they don't like what they see or feel in that future scenario. So they are naturally less likely to take that tidbit.

When you're trying to lose weight, dieting can often feel like a constant battle. One part of you wants to indulge in a tasty snack or treat, while the other part struggles to keep you disciplined and on track. The pleasure of a treat is immediate, but the benefits of weight loss often take weeks or even months to become noticeable.
To make matters worse, there's an overwhelming amount of confusing and contradictory advice about how to lose weight. With so many diets and so much conflicting guidance, it can be hard to know what to follow or whose advice to trust.
One common problem with diets is the language we use, such as "going on a diet," which implies there will eventually be a time to "come off it." This creates an unhealthy yo-yo cycle for many people. They rigidly follow an extreme, low-calorie diet, lose some weight, and then-once they've reached their goal or can no longer sustain the diet-start to regain the weight.
Often, people end up putting on even more weight than they lost because yo-yo dieting can slow metabolism, making future weight loss even more challenging. Additionally, extreme low-calorie diets often cause loss of muscle mass, which is problematic because muscle increases metabolism. The more muscle you have, the more calories you burn even at rest.
