Can I use Rewind to help a man overcome abuse he suffered when he was eight?
Hello Mark,
I'm working with a man who had a fear of travelling on public transport linked to when, as an eight-year-old, he was abused by his father at the bus depot where he worked.
Could I use the Rewind Technique?
Thanks,
Angela

Hello Angela and thank you for writing in.
The first thing to do is to ensure it is the long ago abuse that is maintaining this man's phobia of travelling on public transport. If he still has flashbacks to that time and feels now just as he did way back then when he tries to travel in that way, then yes, it sounds like this is a suitable memory to de-condition so that he can be freed up in his life.
Check out my article '3 ways to spot trauma in your clients'. I apologize if this is obvious to you and you have already followed the steps in that piece, but many therapists are still not confident when treating trauma.
The Rewind Technique, as you know, is a fast, effective, and above all comfortable way of relieving trauma in your clients. And people love it because it is so comfortable and they may have been put off going for help because they feared therapy would have to be painful and get them to 'relive' their horrors.
All the best with this man – you can really transform his life,
Mark
