writing a novel

Anonymous's picture

I'm a fiction writer. My first novel did really well (bestseller and won awards), and I'm writing my second novel. I've always had problems with procrastination in all areas of my life, as well as second-guessing myself. I'm having trouble writing my novel. I'm in front of my computer/notebook 12 hours a day but I'm lucky if I focus and actually write more than an hour or two per day. I have half of my novel done, but it was painful to write that (and took a year). Each new chapter or scene I start, I second-guess every word choice, every plot point. Once I get momentum (by finding the right first paragraph, which takes a week sometimes), I get going, but once the chapter is done, the same thing happens over again. I was going to do the writer's block and do it now, but then I saw so many other writing downloads as well as ones on procrastination and overcoming perfection & analysis paralysis, and I'm not sure which I should start with and really focus on. Please help! Thank you!
