Overdoing (trying too hard, doing too much)

Anonymous's picture

Hi,

I tend to overdo things and try too hard in general.

What would help me take a more balanced approach to life and be able to do things in moderation - not too much or too little?

I think I have this tendency partly because of my personality. I'm very enthusiastic and I care deeply about people and life. I don't tend to do the wrong thing, but do too much of a good thing, in which I spend too much time and effort trying, exerting, thinking, caring, giving, etc.

Sometimes it feels like like I don't have a stopping mechanism, like I'm driving a car without brakes.

I'd like to be able to know when to stop and be able to do less overall.

Although it usually looks and feels more like enthusiasm than perfectionism or OCD, sometimes when I overdo things it feels like hypervigilance, such as being overly worried about "what-ifs."

Any ideas?

Thanks so much for your help!
