Letting go of past

Hello again :-)
A patient of mine has bad experience in the past with his father. It shadows his whole life, especially the work he is doing at their company. We want to work on forgiveness but also better connection to his father, also the father is not interested....anything you would suggest besides let go of past and forgive and move on?
They are OK, but do not "hit the spot". :-)
