Alleviate tiredness; stimulate concentration, memory, and recollection

Anonymous's picture

I am tired, lethargic, and cannot seem to concentrate on getting my PCET post-grad course assignments done. I have just completed a three-year degree and am completely knackered.

My youngest brother and my fiancée's mum have also passed away in the last seven months. At the moment, I have a cold/chest infection.

I need to get these assignments done, but find it difficult to concentrate due to being tired and disinterested.

Hi there,

Thank you for your question.

I'm sorry to hear about what you've been through in the past seven months. Losing two people close to you in such a short space of time is never easy and added stress on top of your educational requirements. And you also indicate that you're not feeling well. It's hardly surprising that you're lethargic and having trouble concentrating!

When we're flooded with intense emotion (such as fear, stress, grief, anger, etc.), it becomes harder to think and concentrate and can also be a physical strain, making our bodies more vulnerable to infections and viruses. And then being sick can make it even harder to concentrate - quite a vicious cycle.

It's important that - as much as you can - you take breaks, relax deeply (which any of our downloads will help you do), work through any lingering grief, and take care to meet your primal human needs. Although it can seem counterintuitive, especially when there's a lot of work to do, we need to take breaks and rest and recover as necessary in order to be better prepared to meet our goals.

In addition to the downloads I've tagged below for you to consider, you might like to take a look at our free depression website for strategies to keep what you're going through from becoming a larger problem.

Good luck with your coursework!

Best wishes,

Rebekah
