Overcome Noise Sensitivity (Misophonia) with Hypnosis

Retrain your brain to hear 'those sounds' calmly

Noise Sensitivity

Do certain sounds cause you acute distress or discomfort?

Do you find that you are terribly sensitive to noise that others don't even notice?

Noise sensitivity, or misophonia, can make life pretty tough, can't it? If certain sounds cause you pain and/or emotional distress, it means you always have to think about whether you might hear those sounds. And that means you might avoid certain places, or certain situations. That can cause difficulties with other people - especially if they just don't get why you're so bothered.

Will you have to put up with noise sensitivity for ever?

It might seem like you can't do anything about how you hear things, or how you react. It's not as if you consciously choose how to react to the noises you hear.

Your ears just do what they do, and your brain responds how it does, and nobody asks your permission. Many people think they just have to put up with being oversensitive, and try to avoid potentially distressing situations.

But actually there is quite a lot you can do to influence how, and what, you hear.

Hypnosis can retrain 'automatic' responses

Noise Sensitivity Treatment is an audio hypnosis session that works on the same level as hearing itself - the level of the unconscious mind. It will quickly get you to process sounds in a new and much more comfortable way.

Perhaps you're listening to this session because there are certain sounds you encounter in everyday life that you've repeatedly found intrusive, unpleasant, or even unbearable.

Some people with noise sensitivity-or misophonia, as it's sometimes called-are particularly sensitive to just one or two specific sounds. These sounds become associated with a strong emotional reaction, such as panic, disgust, or even anger and rage, in much the same way someone with a phobia experiences overwhelming fear when they encounter the object of their phobia.

If the sounds you've been sensitive to involve other people, this may have strained your relationships with friends, colleagues, or loved ones. An intense and distressing reaction to certain sounds can make it difficult to enjoy the company of others.

For some people, misophonia leads to a more generalized sensitivity to noise, particularly during periods of stress or anxiety. Intrusive noises may cause them to wince, jump, or find it hard to think clearly-yet these same noises don't seem to bother those around them. For some sufferers, noise sensitivity even disrupts their sleep. They might lie awake in bed, not because of actual noise, but in anticipation of hearing sounds.

Interestingly, noise sensitivity has been strongly linked to increased creativity. In a 2015 study at Northwestern University involving 97 participants, researchers assessed their creativity through both questions and real-world achievements. Participants also underwent tests for sensitivity to environmental noise. The study found that the more creative a person was, the more likely they were to be sensitive to noise and have difficulty filtering out background sounds.

This may be because creativity involves tuning into subtle, unusual, and seemingly illogical ideas and perceptions-things less creative people simply filter out. So, it may be comforting to know that you're in good company. Many creative geniuses throughout history were known for their noise sensitivity, from Charles Darwin, who formulated the theory of evolution, to the innovative writer Franz Kafka.

Of course, you can't march through the world demanding silence from everyone around you. Most people won't be very sympathetic if you tell them you need quiet because of your highly creative mind! That's why it's important to find ways to cope with noise sensitivity and to learn how to manage and control your receptiveness to sounds, so life becomes more manageable and enjoyable.

The hypnotic part of this session will help you calm the excessive emotions associated with certain sounds, allowing you to experience a sense of calm neutrality and indifference to those sounds from now on.

Being sensitive and attuned to your senses can be a real gift, but it's a gift you need to harness and control. This session will help hypnotically train your mind to selectively tune out background sounds that aren't relevant, so you can direct your attention in more rewarding, fulfilling, and productive ways.
