Dizziness and vertigo are characterized by feelings of lightheadedness and loss of
balance. You may also feel faint, unsteady, and as if the room is spinning. The good
news is dizziness and vertigo are usually not serious and can often be treated
easily.
What's happening when you feel dizzy is your brain is not getting enough blood. This
may happen if you are dehydrated, perhaps from vomiting, fever, or diarrhea, or when
your blood pressure drops suddenly. This can happen if you get up too quickly when
sitting or lying down. More serious causes of dizziness include stroke, heart
problems, and shock. Vertigo is commonly caused by inner ear problems, such as an
infection, or when you move your head very suddenly.
Many people experience dizziness and vertigo because of a fear of heights. It's
normal to be wary of high places because they can be dangerous. But when your fear
of heights is irrational, you can experience dizziness and vertigo. This fear can
be treated quite easily with hypnosis. Under deep relaxation, you can remove the
unconscious fear that causes dizziness and vertigo. Your brain has learned to be
afraid of heights, and hypnosis helps it unlearn that fear. As a result, you will
feel more relaxed and comfortable with heights.
