Although we have hundreds of sessions on the site, each applicable to specific problems, concerns and areas of performance improvement, there are larger general patterns behind what makes people behave and feel as they do, and what leads people to become high performers in any field. We pride ourselves on informing all our sessions with common-sense up-to-date psychology, as well as tried and tested hypnotic communication. Here I will give details of the thinking behind some of this month's sessions.
Relax after work
Performing well in life requires great flexibility, among other things. Developing the capacity to switch modes from, for example, solution-focused work mode to relaxed receptive and expansive home mode greatly increases flexibility and adaptability. We all need to 'de-compress' after extended periods of work, to 'switch gear' and shake off the mental and physical states that work engenders.
Unfortunately, rather a lot of us do this 'switching' in ways that can potentially cause serious problems. I've lost count of the number of people over the years who've told me they started having 'just a glass' of wine so they could 'unwind' from work in the evening. And all too soon, thanks to habituation, that glass turned into a bottle. And sometimes several bottles.
Still others just slump down in front of the TV and before they know it a large portion of their non-work life has been eaten up without them getting any real benefit. Relax after work provides a quick and effective way to strongly mark the divide between the 'work you' and the 'non-work you' so that you can healthily make that switch. And talking of switching.
Charge what you're worth
Charge what you're worth is for those people who really need to switch perspective and comfortably charge a proper fee for their work. It's amazing how many people, purportedly in business for themselves, find it hard to charge decent rates for what they do. Of course, the basic psychology in play here is that if you don't place value on what you do, others won't either.
I went through this struggle myself when I launched my therapy business. I hesitated a long while before raising my therapy fees to an appropriate level. But when I finally did so, I couldn't help noticing that I started getting more clients. Conversely, when I've offered therapy for no charge, I've noticed a marked decrease in motivation and participation from people.
It might seem a bit obvious to say this, but to really feel comfortable you need to feel more comfortable. Hypnosis doesn't just help people think more creatively, it also helps them naturally start to feel and communicate differently - and talking of communicating differently, how would you feel about being more charismatic in the coming year?
Be more charismatic
Be more charismatic takes as its premise that charisma isn't something you are born with but a quality, a 'power' even, that you can acquire and develop. The word 'charisma', if we unwrap it, really means the extent to which you can influence others with emotion and ideas. If you listened to last month's audio insight you'll have learnt that forming beliefs has more to do with emotion than logical thought processes. Charismatic people, by being considerably more expressive than average, are able to engender emotion in others more easily and therefore transmit ideas and beliefs more strongly. Developing charisma builds your influence and makes you more compelling. People listen to and respond to charismatic people. Of course, it also helps if what you have to communicate is valuable and useful :)
Mark's Tip for the Top
And what's my personal favorite for the final month of the antepenultimate year of the primary decade of the 21st century? It's got to be do it now. That's because I have a wonderful (though not much admired) talent for deferring work and making that all important cup of coffee/phone call/TV show start time/you name it. but at the same time I really do love it when I finally get stuck into those major (or even minor) projects that I may have been - ever so slightly, you understand - putting off. This session is specifically for those major goals that you know are going to make a big difference, but I find it works wonderfully well with those smaller niggly things too
