Parent with Dementia Hypnosis Script

How to use hypnosis to help cope with a difficult caring role

The effects of dementia can be devastating, and not just on the person who is afflicted. Watching a parent go through this process of decline, where they may eventually forget who they are, and even who their own children are, is one of the most challenging experiences anyone can face.

The Parent with Dementia Hypnosis Script from The Script Collection was developed specifically to help people who find themselves caring for a parent with this condition cope with the stress and strain and maintain their own resilience.

The pretalk looks at the emotional impact of dealing with dementia in the family in some detail. It is particularly important to appreciate that there is no 'right' answer, and that no one can be a perfect carer. Hypnosis is a great way to develop self acceptance and to boost resilience and resourcefulness.

An extended induction gives the client plenty of time to become very deeply relaxed (something they may not have done for a long time). At the same time, it helps them appreciate that it is not selfish to take time out and to rest, but vital.

The trancework guides the client through two different kinds of dissociation. One is focused on developing a deeper level of self acceptance in the face of life's challenges and evoking and utilizing a range of helpful inner resources that the client may not previously have accessed.

The second is focused on how to deal with painful encounters that have already taken place between the client and their parent that may be causing continued distress.

The client learns how to combine these approaches and use them in day to day dealing with their parent's situation.

Future orientation lets the client 'pre-experience' what it will be like when they are using this new mindset on a regular basis, so that it feels natural and normal to be this resourceful, and this accepting of human limitation, and so be able to do the best that can be done.

This script will ensure that these new patterns become more and more integrated into the client's dealings and relationship with their parent.
