Gaining self confidence is extremely hard for anyone who has low self confidence and thus low self esteem. Everyone
tends to base their personal values on past successes and failures. While it is important to care about our mistakes
and learn from them it is equally important for us to care about and value ourselves. Gaining self confidence means
trusting in yourself and your abilities no matter what others may think about you.
Self confidence for many depends on how they think others see them. They do not realize that letting others
determines their self worth is putting themselves in the hands of others. Gaining self confidence involves
reminding ourselves about what we do well and what good qualities we see in ourselves. Sometimes we need to talk to
a good friend or partner to be able to see what is good about ourselves and get a good idea of the good things
that others see in us.
Another way of gaining self confidence is to try doing more challenging things. The thing to be mindful of is to
not to get into situations that present too much of a challenge, but just enough to allow small successes. When we
build on small successes, we can gradually increase our self confidence as we build ourselves up as we go along.
People who suffer from prolonged periods of low self confidence may need professional help in the form of therapy,
self help programs such as tapes or CDs or hypnosis. All of these have been found to be very
effective in helping those interested in gaining self confidence.
