Do You have a Fear of Dying?

If you have a fear of dying, you might be relieved to know that you are not alone. This is a very common, yet little discussed phobia. Many people feel breathless, dizzy, and nauseous at the thought of dying. Even though they may know that this fear is irrational, it's something that still plagues many people. The good news is there is help for fear of dying.

There are many ways to help your fear of dying, depending on what approach you'd like to take. Your doctor can prescribe medication to help relieve the anxiety that causes phobias. There are also herbal supplements that work in the same was as their pharmaceutical counterparts. Be aware, though, that drugs do have side effects that may or may not go away with time.

Cognitive behavioral therapy can also help relieve your fear of dying. This method teaches you to anticipate situations in which your fear takes over and makes you aware of how your body feels so you can learn to control the attacks. To be effective, several sessions are needed, and it can take months for you to feel some relief. This is not a method that will cure you instantly.
